Rupert Blanchard
Chest of drawers

Making use of mismatched drawers, this captivatingly quirky one-off piece won your vote.

Upcycled, one-off furniture pieces clearly capture your imagination as much as they do Rupert Blanchard’s, whose motivation is ‘beauty in waste’. This young designer uses mismatched drawers — taken from a 1960s dressing table and a 1950s science lab desk, say — to create striking hybrid chests. A tad Frankensteinian yet fabulously decorative, they’re available from Elemental in London’s Spitalfields. Rupert has also masterminded store interiors for fashion accessory designer Ally Capellino. He is currently working on a new range to be sold through Objects for Use, the shop he plans to open with friend Momoko Mizutani in his Shoreditch workshop later this year.
